Vel Locks Air Personality

There are many Houstonians who can hardly wait until Midnight. It is a time of change for them, when they put aside the tasks of the day and enter into a world created by master all night disc jockey, Vel Locks on KCOH 1430 AM.

Vel is a lover of all types of music whose younger years were spent helping his mother promote some of the greatest gospel artists  to enter the field. Such as  Shirley Caesar, James Cleveland, Swan Silvertones, Swanee Quintet, The Staples Singer,  Inez Andrews etc. as well as the influence of  step-father James Wells, Earl Swanson (saxophonist and former husband of the blues legend Ruth Brown, and  the popular orchestra leader Jesse Powell among others inspired him to take music lessons and become a saxophonist himself. He spent his life around music as an occasional band member and a memorable stint as a band manager for a popular Houston band.

Vel brought a loyal following with him and gained new fans as a result of long being  known in Houston and around the nation as one of the most popular mobile deejays. Relying on his vast knowledge of music that comes with his extensive entertainment background he uses over twenty five years of experience to forge a bond with his audience. He does this by sharing with them those great current chart busters, as well as those past popular hits so rarely heard.  He brings a fresh collection of southern rhythm and blues, southern soul, blues, and funk that has attracted a faithful audience that just cannot seem to get enough of this great all night programming on KCOH – 1430 AM radio.  The local audience as well as those who join him online often call, e-mail or write to express their joy over the change that he has brought to their listening experience; on Friday nights he has created “The Grown Folks Show” which is best described as a show within a show with music built around musically  based adult love themes and experiences. Although it is aptly named the Grown Folks show, the Friday night/Saturday morning audience crosses age, color and  gender lines.

While he did not choose to become a touring or recording artist, his deep knowledge of music and all of the fine points that go into making  a work of art instead of just another recording enables him to please his fans by selecting great music for programming to his audience. Join Vel Locks at midnight on your radio or on line at www.kcohradio.com.
