Ralph Cooper Air Personality / Sports Director

Ralph Cooper's roots extend deep into the fabric of Houston. Grimes Elementary, Attucks Middle School, Worthing High School, Houston Community College and the University of Houston - Downtown, have made him a true product of Houston Area schools. Ralph became the Sports Director for KCOH Radio in 1984 after leaving a competing station here in Houston where he had held that same position from 1973-1984. He has been one of the commentators of the KTRK-TV Channel 13 Extra Points Program since 1992. There have been many memorable events during his long career in sports broadcasting, but some of the highlights include:

  • 1972 Super Bowl in Houston (Minnesota vs. Miami)
  • Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman "Rumble in the Jungle" in Zaire, Africa 1978
  • Texas Southern Men's Basketball Team winning NAIA Championship 1978
  • Houston Angels winning first Women's Basketball Championship in Houston 1978
  • Houston Comets winning FOUR WNBA Titles 1997-2000
  • Houston Rockets winning back-to-back NBA Titles in 1994 and 1995
  • LUV YA BLUE days of Houston Oilers 1978-1982
  • Muhhamad Ali Boxing in Houston twice in 1971 (Buster Douglas & Jimmy Ellis)
  • JR Richard of the Houston Astros posting consecutive 300+ strikeout seasons (1978-1979)
  • Houston Astros (1980, 1986, 1997, 1998, & 1999)
  • University of Houston Basketball teams in PHI SLAMMA JAMMA era under Coach Guy Lewis
  • Evander Holyfield - Mike Tyson I in Las Vegas.
  • George Forman Championship Win 1995
  • Super Bowl Houston 2005

Ralph is the founder - director of the "Stars of the Future" program formed in 1983. More then 8000 youth have participated in the annual Middle School Basketball Tournaments, Little League Baseball Program, Reading Program and Radio Internships up until the year 2000, with thousands more anticipated in the years to come.

Ralph Cooper can be heard Monday thru Friday at 8 AM with Sports Update, and on Sports Rap, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday's from 5 PM to 7 PM and Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM.
